Ulseröd Windmill

Ulseröd Windmill

The windmill of Ulseröd, just outside Havstenssund, was built in 1900 and was in operation until 1939. During this period new technology made it possible for the farmers to mill their grain in small electrical mills. This together with the urbanization made the windmills obsolete.

The windmill of Ulseröd was saved from decay by Tanum Local Folklore Society and Havstenssund Community Association. A major renovation took place in 2013 to 2016. The windmill wings were rebuilt, the facade wood replaced and painted red, windows replaced. Find out more here (in Swedish). In my opinion, by volunteer heroes saving this piece of history for the future.

The windmill type is a smock mill, also called Dutch type. The top, or the smock cap, can be turned by the windmill operator to capture optimum wind. It’s an old well tested design that already Leonardo da Vinci made a sketch for. Special feature of Ulseröd windmill is the two parallel milling stations. Check out the fictional story I wrote a year ago about the windmill here. Stay tuned for interior pictures.

Magic

Magic

It was just one of those nights. The still but cold spring evening. Bird song that filled the air. So silent that you can hear the buds pop and the grass grow. Sun kissing the tree tops in a gentle caution to the coming night cold. Stillness, just stillness.

Cherish the moment, ha de Gött!

Mark

Mark

The navigation mark ‘Vakupp’ in sunset. I left work early today to make time for some photos. Finally after several weeks of clear skies there were some clouds. Clouds just brings more life to a picture. Wind is picking up and I got that fantastic splash as a bonus.

Mark the way to the light, ha de Gött!

Still

Still

Sometimes it is just still, even if you’re not sure what is up or down.

The island Killingen in Sannäsfjorden a sunny day in March. Ripples on the surface caused by me sitting on the floating bridge.

Blue can be fantastic, ha de Gött!

Early Spring

Under the protective bush it peeks out. The little shy ‘Blåsippa’ (Hepatica nobilis). Seeking the first warmth of the spring sun.

In English it known by the names Common Hepatica, Livewort, Kidneywort or Pennywort and it can be found all over the Northern Hemisphere. One of the first flowers in the spring.

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes, ha de Gött!
