Abandoned

Abandoned

Abandoned farm that slowly the forest takes back. Who lived here and why did they leave. Was it a big lively family laughing around the dinner table after a hard days work. Children grew up and went away to university and high payed jobs in the city, even to the other side of the world, maybe Down Under?

The old couple staying on until their bodies gave in to age. Now sitting in the retirement home with their memories. Memories of the cows mooing a salute for the early morning milking. The smell of warm stable on a cold winter morning. Pigs grunting as they slowly wake up ready to be feed. Laughter from children playing hide and seek at the forest edge. A gentle kiss and a caress over her pregnant belly.

The fading photo of a smiling family in front of the farm silently slips from her hand as she falls asleep in the chair.

Happiness is a retrospect, ha de Gött!

Cherish the light

Cherish the light

Tjurpannan nature preserve from a different angle and covered by a thin layer of snow. The sun made brave attempts to break through the thick dark blue clouds. Today sun was raising at 08:53 and set again at 15:20. Winter time is hard for a photographer who has a day job full time.

Don’t eat the yellow snow, animals use it when they have to go. Ha de Gött!

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

They were a bit tired on my visit to Nordens Ark, the Snow Leopards (Uncia uncia). For this large cat well adapted to cold weather probably felt it to be nice with the temperature around 0°C. Well suited for an afternoon nap.

Native in the Central Asia mountains cold and snow. The large paws works well as snowshoes. With its powerful legs allow the snow leopard to jump up to 16 metres between cliffs. The snow leopard can weigh up to 55 kilos, become up to 130 centimetres long and be 65 centimetres high. This endangered cat are solitary and only seek other individuals during mating season. Illegally hunted for its bones and teeth used in traditional Asian medicine.

I have a dream, that humanity will wake up. Ha de Gött!

Amur Leopard

Amur Leopard

I had given up on this picture. It’s taken through the fence and I thought it would come out all blurred. But after some time in Lightroom it came out rather good.

The Amur Leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) is the worlds most endangered cat. Hunted for its beautiful fur and, like many other endangered species, its habitats shrinks due to human exploitation. A solitary animal that only meet to mate. Majestic with weight up to 45 kilos, can become almost two meters long and 80 centimetres high.

Check out Nordens Ark if you want to know more.

Dhole

Dhole

Dhole (Cuon alpinus) or Asiatisk Vildhund are native to central and southeast Asia. With no surprise it has several other names in English, Asian wild dog, Asiatic wild dog, Indian wild dog, whistling dog, red dog, and mountain wolf. It is, as the names suggest, related to Wolfs and domesticated Dogs. A highly social creature living in large clans in strict hierarchies.

Also this is an endangered species with less than 2 500 individuals left. Loss of habitat and trnsfered diseases from domestic dogs are some of the factors contributing to its decline. Also competition over prey from tigers and leopards in tropical regions.

Santa’s stable

Santa’s stable

Less than a month to Christmas so I took a tour to Santa’s stable. Rudolf was busy preparing the Christmas eve tour with the Alf’s so he had no time for photos.

The Skogsren (Rangifer tarandus fennicus), Finnish forest reindeer is a rare subspecies to the reindeer. Native to Finland and north-western Russia. It is larger than the semi-domesticated common reindeer. Between 180 and 220 centimetres long. Adult male weighing up to 250 kilos while the female weighs about 100 kilos. Rarely seen by humans as it thrives in the dense Taiga, or Boreal, forests. This beautiful animals that stood model for Disney are near extinction.

Be a dear to someone for Christmas, ha de Gött!
