Light

Light

I took this picture trying to capture the very special light. Is this picture hopeful or frightening?

Sunlight piercing through the dark clouds. Blue skies shows like hope. A house stands firmly on the rock. Shelter against the howling wind. Beams of hopeful light shines on the boats safe on land. Shines in the glittering water, like a child laughter. Bright crest on the clouds like bird wings.

Thickening clouds cover the sun. Blue skies turn darker and darker. Shadows eating the light. The structure on the rocks turns to a scary fortress. Birds fly nervously to take shelter. Water shivers in the cold wind. Clouds turns into deeper gray like a cold November day.

Two ways of describing the same picture. Which one fits you today?

Drop

Drop

What am I, but a drop in the ocean
Clustered together with others
Strong carry tons of steel
Together as one
Life, feeding a world
Glue to the chain of food
Flying high up in the sky
Momentum from wind and sun
Master basic states of physics
Cold Solid, tempered liquid, gaseous hot
What am I, but a drop in the ocean
Circle of life, life itself

Water, H2O, a chemical compound that covers 71% of the Earths surface. All living organism depend on it. We should treat it with the respect it deserves. Ha de Gött!

Flying steady in formation. We fly safe in any kind of weather. Stay on course with the Quacknav. Tested for many generations. The way we can see even when flying over the sea. You can huff and you can puff. We just quack on.

The Hare & Duck

The Hare & Duck

I listen around, easily scare
I'm just a lonely, little hare
You sit there, so full of luck
You can fly, being a duck
Yes, in any weather
We just spread our feather
Finding out track
By sounding our quack
I'm fast to outrun
The man with a gun
I'm in a special class
Expert to hide in grass
But how do you escape the hunter?
Oh, we just duck!

Wishing you a happy weekend. Ha de Gött!

Plastic pollution

Plastic pollution

A few days ago I wrote about our annual Easter historical walk to the natural preserve, Tjurpannan. I took some nice pictures that i plan to share with you. But as I went through them I saw these pictures that I also took. So what’s wrong with this picture?

Is it the Homo Sapiens in a nutshell? Intelligent enough to invent a fantastic material as plastic. Dumb enough to just dump it in the oceans hoping it will disappear. It doesn’t look very nice and animals can get stuck or swallow it with tremendous suffering before death.

But the biggest problem is when the plastic parts are grind down to small parts, called micro plastic. Fish and animals eat it and it travels up the food chain. They get troubles breeding and can even starve to death when their intestines are damaged. Who is usually in the top of the food chain?

So please don’t leave that plastic on the ground. Pick it up! Ha de Gött!

Contraband part 2

Contraband part 2

The sun created an aura around her head as she leaned over him for a kiss. Her laughter was like the blackbirds singing in spring. He was confused. He felt no joy but instead a feeling of discomfort was throbbing in his head. The taste of blood filled his mouth instead of the soft feeling from her kiss. Her image swept away by a dark cloud and a thundering sound. Yet not irregular like thunder but more a rhythmic pounding. He came to when a bucket of ice cold water was thrown in his face. He found himself laying on his back on a steel deck. And instead of his betrothed, two rough coast guard officers leaned over him.

How did he end up here? In his hazed mind he slowly remembered, through the coast guards shouting, how he and his brother crashed into the coast guards steamboat in the thick fog. The coast guard vessel made good speed so his brothers small wooden boat was crushed by impact. They ended up in the ice cold water. He saw his brothers head sticking up over the surface just before he lost consciousness. Now he realized that the rhythmic pounding came from the steam engine.

A slap in the face face from one of the officers pulled him away from his thoughts. Over the engine noise, the ringing in his ears and the throbbing headache he tried to understand what the coast guard officers was shouting. Only with quite some effort he could make out that they spoke Norwegian. The tongue failed him when he tried to speak. All swollen and bloody as his lips. He tried to tell the officers that he was Swedish hoping they would treat him less violently. One of the officers kicked him before they went out slamming the heavy iron door shut behind them.

He was laying there on the floor all wet, in the noise and heat from the steam engine wondering if his brother made it. He cursed him for the idea of running contraband booze to Norway. Would he ever see his beloved again or rot away in a Norwegian prison cell?

This is the second part of the story contraband. Click here to read the first. Stay tuned for the continued story. Ambition is the connect it all to a novel in the future. Ha de Gött!

Blackbird

Blackbird

Photo taken through a not so very clean window.

Common Blackbird (Turdus merula) is a very common bird in northern Europe. It has even been imported to Australia. Perhaps not so very often considered to be a beautiful bird as it has very little color. I disagree. It is a very beautiful bird and if you get the chance to see it up close you see the patterns in the feathers. The male has all black feathers while the female is more gray.

The male is a loud melodic singer. Sitting high up in the trees trying to impress the females. Not only very good at singing full melodies from early morning to late night. Even if the male always starts its song in a unique tone, it is also a good imitator. The males has singing battles with other males in the nearby territories but always starts with its own tune.

The Blackbird teaches us that there is always more than what meets the eye. Beauty comes in many different ways, it is diverse. We should keep our minds open to the beauty in life.

Happy Easter everybody and ha de Gött!
