Introductions

Introductions

Introduce yourself, that short, get to know.

Introduction to start of a training course or workshop.

Meet up with people you don’t know before.

Your name, company, your job and for how long.

Extracurricular activities and interest, not a problem.

But then.

Wife and two children, oldest 23 and one year left at university.

Studying to become high school teacher in Swedish and history.

Still quite easy, what next.

Youngest son should have been 21, but last year passed away.

Make everyone feel uncomfortable, but…

He’s still my son forever in my heart.

Never mention him, as if he never existed?

Pretend he’s still alive and at his second year at university.

But he will never be a computer science engineer.

His ash is in an urn.

Grief throws many punches in everyday life. Specially in situations you don’t expect. This needed to come out.

Raven

Raven

It flew past me, real close, form behind. Sounding its characteristic jarring sound right over my head. Even if I almost filled my pants with fear I managed to get this shot.

The large black Raven (Corvus corax) is a mythical bird. It has a very central role in the Vikings mythology. The god Odin (Oden) sends his two ravens Hugin and Munin out in the worlds, both gods (Asgard) and mans (midgard), to gather information for him. It is not only considered holy but also very intelligent. Krax, ha de gött!

Fish fry

Fish fry

Fish fry shoal looking for food under the jetty. No adult fish to show them the ropes. With nothing more than what’s coded in their DNA they have to find food. Steer away from bigger fish and birds trying to eat them. If the grow up someone might catch them and fry them.

Plastic pollution

Plastic pollution

A few days ago I wrote about our annual Easter historical walk to the natural preserve, Tjurpannan. I took some nice pictures that i plan to share with you. But as I went through them I saw these pictures that I also took. So what’s wrong with this picture?

Is it the Homo Sapiens in a nutshell? Intelligent enough to invent a fantastic material as plastic. Dumb enough to just dump it in the oceans hoping it will disappear. It doesn’t look very nice and animals can get stuck or swallow it with tremendous suffering before death.

But the biggest problem is when the plastic parts are grind down to small parts, called micro plastic. Fish and animals eat it and it travels up the food chain. They get troubles breeding and can even starve to death when their intestines are damaged. Who is usually in the top of the food chain?

So please don’t leave that plastic on the ground. Pick it up! Ha de Gött!

Blackbird

Blackbird

Photo taken through a not so very clean window.

Common Blackbird (Turdus merula) is a very common bird in northern Europe. It has even been imported to Australia. Perhaps not so very often considered to be a beautiful bird as it has very little color. I disagree. It is a very beautiful bird and if you get the chance to see it up close you see the patterns in the feathers. The male has all black feathers while the female is more gray.

The male is a loud melodic singer. Sitting high up in the trees trying to impress the females. Not only very good at singing full melodies from early morning to late night. Even if the male always starts its song in a unique tone, it is also a good imitator. The males has singing battles with other males in the nearby territories but always starts with its own tune.

The Blackbird teaches us that there is always more than what meets the eye. Beauty comes in many different ways, it is diverse. We should keep our minds open to the beauty in life.

Happy Easter everybody and ha de Gött!

A Good Friday Walk

A Good Friday Walk

At the start it was an overcast day. I took the picture just as the bright spring sun started to shine through the clouds.

My parents-in-law has a long standing tradition of the Easter walk. Usually takes place on the Good Friday. Family and friends gather for a walk somewhere in the area to be guided by the older generation in the local history. There is no formal invitation or Facebook group. Where and when is just spread in the old fashioned way, by word of mouth. Some years 20 turn up and some years over 50.

It is a good way to socialize over generations. At the very least three generations are present but some years even five. Also the history of the area and the common people that lived here is preserved for future generations. This year we went to the natural preserve Tjurpannan, that I have blogged of before. The natural preserve was chosen this year to make sure social distance could be kept during the walk.

Light

Light

Lights out long time ago but once gave so much joy. Lighting the way to the outhouse during long dark winter evenings. Lit up the yard to kick start the moped in the mornings. Now it hangs there slowly eaten away by corrosion. Will there ever again rush electrons through the thin filament?

From the abandoned house. Electricity is according the local sources the only modern comfort in the house. Ha de Gött!

Abandoned House

Abandoned House

There in at the edge of the forest. Alone and neglected. Lawn mower locked in the outhouse for many years. Bushes and trees running wild in the garden. Dry paint falling off, leaving the wood open to the forces of nature. In dire need of attention.

Found this yesterday and I think it looks good in Black & White. It is still salvageable. The chimney looks fine and there is electricity, but I doubt if someone pay the bill. There is also an outhouse that I wrote of yesterday. Ha de Gött!

Bluebell

Bluebell

Today it was announced that the Small Bluebell (Campanula rotundifolia) was appointed to the floral emblem of Sweden. It has always been my favorite flower so I’m very pleased. It is also called Harebell or Bluebell of Scotland. Hope they don’t feel that we stole it from them. It blooms July to September. Twenty three years ago when I got married to my lovely (she reads the blog) wife, the entire church was decorated with Bluebells.

The picture was taken by me last summer on Killingen island. My son, who passed away seven months ago today, though I was going a bit to nerdy. He took the picture of me that you see below. Also I share a picture of the related Large Bluebell.

Hope you like, subscribe, comment and have nice weekend. Ha de Gött!

Always learn

Always learn

A guiding star in my life has always been learning. A day spent without learning something new, is a day wasted. I have not yet wasted a single day. You learn new things everyday but often don’t realize it. It is a question of keeping an open mind and being curious. Some people see mistakes as a failure and I pity them. I always told my children that it is no use making mistakes if you don’t learn from them.

Sometimes you set out to try and learn something new, and for me it has been photography. I have taken some online courses and got a lot of tips from my father-in-law. Mostly I just clicking away thinking it is only 10 000 hours, or in this case 10 000 pictures, between the amateur and the pro. So I show you some pictures from the same spot taken in early November last year and last weekend, some 1 000 pictures later. What do you think, any progress? For best view go to my site. Old/New.
