Lake View

Lake View

Perhaps today it’s time to sell the house. This is the view from my home office today. After several days of heavy raining the meadow has turned into a lake. The wild apple tree cast its beautiful autumn image to reflect in the still water. For those concerned, the cows are indoors already. More rain is expected so I’ll have this for a few days, hope I get some work done at all.

Everything in moderation, ha de Gött!

Alone

Alone

Alone on the beach the little Herring Gull chick. Limping on his injured leg. Deserted by his parents and kind. Looking back with fear in the eyes. To young or scared to make any sound. Unable to open its wings and fly to safety. Little Herring Gull chick stuck in the open field.

I took this picture some weeks ago walking to the boat. First I was glad I could get so close and take a picture without my zoom lens. Then I realized it was a Herring Gull chick that was hurt. Clearly the parents had given up on it as there was no gulls in the air shouting and attacking me. An hour later when I came back a couple of feathers moving in the wind revealed that nature’s taken its course.

Horseshoe

Horseshoe

There on an old oak pole it hangs, the old rusty horseshoe. Was it dropped by a horse passing on the road to Havstenssund? Perhaps it was simply removed by the blacksmith and replaced with a new one. Tossed away in the corner of the stone fence in a pile with other scrap metal. Was it made in the blacksmith’s workshop I found in december. (Find the story here). Somebody much later picked it up and hanged it on the pole. Now from history to the future it goes on to the world wide web.

Ride on, pilgrim, ha de Gött!

Lobster

Lobster

At exactly seven o’clock the first Monday in September after the 20:th, a splashing sound symphony starts. In the first light of dawn the small boats circling each other to get the best positioning. Cheerful morning greetings are passed by those with the best spots. Grunting replies by those that just drifted a bit too far out of course. With a splash the cage goes in the water. The skill is to gently drag the cage in position on an underwater rock shelf, preferably in front of the lobster nest.

The yearly Lobster fishing season has started. This delicacy from the underwater rocks is on the most wanted list for many recreational fishermen. Yepp, that’s true mostly men. In the past the lobster has been over fished and to keep the population at a viable level there are some restrictions to follow. The shield needs to be at minimum nine centimeters and if a female specimen carries spawn it goes back in the sea. A maximum of six cages per person, that needs to be present in the boat.

The first lobster sold at the fish auction in Göteborg this morning costed 77 000 Swedish Krona, in euros €7 500.

Ha de Gött, we will, got two so far!

Umbrella

Umbrella

A little spider taking shelter from the rain under a leaf. I have no idea what species it is. Still looking for a good app to identify insects. I guess no-one will ever release it to the market. It will be full of bugs!

Grandfather Troll

Grandfather Troll

There he sits on top of the hill.

Looking down on the world.

Frown and sighs over the state it’s in.

Is there hope for the coming generations.

Will the troll children ever taste a glas of beer.

Better a troll in the forest than one in cyber space, ha de Gött!

Macro

Macro

Perhaps a bit rude to take a close up on the flowers reproductive organs. I could not help myself because I got me a brand new camera and a macro lens. A 15 year technology leap. So this little flower shining so brightly yellow was the designated model. The first picture is with the new gear and the second is with the old camera. Still need to learn all functions but I’m quite pleased.

Keep your loved ones close, ha de Gött!

Little sun

Little sun

Ulle Haddock the discoverer!? My flower identification app could not find out what type of flower this is. Could it be I found a new species? It almost looks like a sunflower but the stem is not more than 10 centimeters and more wood like than a sunflower. Also the leafs are different. If anyone know what it is please let me know. It grows in a sunny place in poor dry soil. Way too beautiful to keep from you.

Don’t wait for the sun, be the sun, ha de Gött!

Himalayan Balsam

Himalayan Balsam

This beautiful flower (Impatiens glandulifera) is considered an invasive species. Introduced to Europe by Dr John Forbes Royle 1839, from the Himalayas. In Swedish it is called “Jättebalsamin”, probably connected to the height of the plant, up to two meters. “Jätte” translates to giant.

Some funny English names, policeman’s helmet, bobby tops, copper tops, gnome’s hatstand or kiss-me-on-the-mountain. Just picture that, a gnome kissing a policeman in the sunset on the mountain while the copper mere rides up the hill.

I wrote this to the autumn, inspired by the colorful leaf. Forming the words, I realized it was about me being left behind. Some days you just feel like a fading leaf, ha de Gött!
